Macrae & Dick Inverness Eights and Small Boats Head - Saturday 16th February 2013 - Results Report

On Saturday 16th February, a significant entry of over 90 crews took part in the Macrae & Dick Eights and Small Boats Head in fine weather conditions on the superb rowing waters of the Caledonian Canal in Inverness. Much excellent racing was witnessed over the 4.4 kilometre course in an exciting day of competition which included crews from all over Scotland.

The Mens Open Eights was won by a composite Castle Semple RC/Stirling RC/Glasgow RC/Clydesdale ARC crew in an excellent time of 15 minutes 01.9 seconds, whilst the fastest time in Womens Eights was recorded by a composite crew from Clydesdale ARC/Clyde ARC which recorded a fine time of 18 minutes 10.4 seconds in the Womens R2 event.

Clydesdale ARC won the Mens R1 and R2 and Womens R1 Eights whilst Aberdeen Schools RA (ASRA) won the Womens R2, Open Junior 18 and Open Junior 16 Eights. Aberdeen BC won both the Mens Novice Eights and the Mixed Veteran Eights whilst Aberdeen University BC won the Womens Novice Eights.

In the small boats events, single scullers from Aberdeen BC won the Mens Open, R1 and Veteran events whilst single scullers from Clydesdale ARC won both the Mens Novice in Open Junior 18 events. The Open Junior 16 single sculls event was won by Castle Semple RC. Glasgow RC won both the Womens Junior 16 and Junior 18 events.

Winners in double sculls events in Division 1 were ASRA in the Open Junior 14 event, Strathclyde Park RC in the Mens Veteran event and Dundee University BC in the Womens R2 event. In double sculls events in Division 2, Clydesdale ARC won the Mens R2 and Open Junior 16 events, St Andrew BC won the Womens Junior 18 event and ASRA won the Womens Junior 14 event. Glasgow RC won both the Womens Open event in Division 1 and the Womens Veteran event in Division 2.

Winners of coxless pairs in Division 1 were ASRA in the Womens Junior 18 event and in Division 2, Clydesdale ARC won the Womens Open event with Aberdeen BC winning the Mens Veteran event

A highly encouraging performance was recorded in Division 1 by an emerging Inverness Womens Novice Eight which included new junior members whilst an Inverness Mens Novice Eight also raced well in Division 2. Other Inverness scullers performed well in each division, just missing out on medal positions.
